Last year I decided to travel to a country, where I have never been before. So I took my photo albums of all the journeys I have made in my life to see, which countries are still missing in my long list of my holiday destinations. I was very glad that I had made all these photos of each tour I made, so it was easy for me to find out, where I was going to travel to last autumn. I regarded my albums and read their labels: London, Rome, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Southern France, Belgium, USA, Canada, Madrid and Oslo. I realised that I had never been in Finland e. g. So it was certain that my journey would go to this Scandinavian country.
Next day I went to a book store to look for some books about the place in the Northern part of Europe. After I had skimed through some books I chose two of them, with which I went to the cash desk to pay for them. Before arriving at home I stopped at a filling station to bye some maps for my forthcoming travel to Scandivia. I could have looked for the map material at the book store in our shopping street, but I had forgotten it, because I had been engrossed in reading and choosing the books about Finland with the most useful information for me.
I sat on my sofa in my living room and read the books I bought some hours before. I got interesting information. E. g. I didn't knew that not all Finnish inhabitants are talking Finnish. There are also about 6 per cent of Swedish speaking people, who are living in Finland. The population of Finland is more than 5 million. I read about one hour in my books and was very curious afterwards. So I planned my travel to Finland that I started three weeks later.
I washed the clothes that I needed for the journey and packed them into my suitcase. I booked a hotel in Finland by the usage of my internet access, bought some food for the travel and studied my maps. So I was prepared perfectly for the following two weeks. I called a taxi for arriving at the airport. After paying the taxi driver it took me one and a half hour for checking in and waiting until the flight began. I enjoyed the time in the plane, as there was a very friendly man to whom I was talking to. He came from Italy, but we had no problems to communicate with each other. We had a conversation in English. So I arrived in Helsinki in a good mood, before I continued my journey by a hired car. I used it not only to reach my hotel in a suburb of the Finnish capital, but the car was necessary for me to reach many interesting places in Finland during my abidance.
I went to Espoo, Oulu, Lahti and Tampere. Of course I also spent a lot of time in Helsinki, where I watched the University and the Baltic Sea e. g. Also I went to the theatre one night, where I saw a very amusing play. Furthermore I spent some time in the inner city for watching the shops and buying some clothes and souvenirs. Also I made some sport during my stay. I played tennis, took some walks and jogged four times. Although the weather was very fine, I didn't like it that the sun sets were very early in the evening. In autumn and winter the days in Finland are not very long, because the country lies in the Northern part of our globe. The people, I became aquainted with, were very friendly. Once I was invited by a man. We drank some red wine and talked about sport and politics.
When I was back at home, I was sad and happy at the same time. I was not enthused that my holiday was over, but otherwise I was glad that I decided to go to Finland. I had a very nice time in this Scandinavian country, where I want to travel to some day again. For the following years I have chosen some other destinations, but in about five or ten years I will think about my plan of returning to Finland. In the meantime I will spend my holidays in Italy, Portugal, Austria and Switzerland. After I have visited these locations, I will think about returning to Finland. Then I will read my two books again and will take a look at my plans I bought.
